How CANS handles information about clients, enquirers, and people and properties near our flights.

Who we are

CANS (Cardiff Aerial Non-contact Surveys) is the data controller for information described here. Contact: hello@cans.wales.

Enquiries and clients

When you email us or send a quote request, we use your name, contact details and the property information you give us to reply, quote, deliver the work and invoice you. Our lawful bases are taking steps toward a contract and our legitimate interests in running the business. We keep client records for six years for accounting purposes, and unconverted enquiries for 12 months.

Aerial images

Our surveys are about buildings, not people. We plan flights to avoid capturing people. We don't zoom into windows, and we blur any identifiable person or vehicle registration in the reports we deliver. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests (recording the condition of buildings for owners, managers and prospective buyers). We have assessed that this doesn't override the rights of people nearby.

Survey video is delivered to clients in 4K as a private or unlisted YouTube link (hosted by Google) and as a download. An unlisted video can be watched by anyone who has the link, so we blur identifiable people and vehicle registrations before anything is uploaded. Confidential work, such as pre-acquisition surveys, is shared only as private videos or downloads. Clients can ask us to remove a video at any time.

Raw footage is kept securely and deleted after the agreed retention period, which is normally 12 months unless a client agreement says otherwise. If you think we've captured you or your property and want to ask about it, contact us and we'll respond within one month.
